Personal Safety Information

When Travelling

  • Plan your trip in advance. It is recommended to keep with you useful addresses and phone numbers that in certain situations could be helpful. Check maps and routes before you leave your hotel.
  • Crowded transport gives pickpockets the opportunity to grab your bag. Keep your bags always closed and within sight.
  • When travelling via public transport and at stations always remember to validate transport tickets, and do not leave luggage unattended, especially in crowded places. Make sure all your belongings are easily identifiable.
  • Follow the traffic rules with your vehicle and do not stop at the request of strangers. Try to park in lighted places, close all windows, lock the doors and do not leave valuables visible inside.
  • If you use a bicycle, it is best to lock it by the frame. It is also advisable to write down the serial number (if available). If it does not have one you can engrave on the frame a number or other identifier.

In the Street

  • Outside the event, do not wear your badge on your outer clothing.
  • Do not stop strangers on the street.
  • Keep your belongings in sight and avoid pockets that are easy to access.

At the Hotel

Watch your luggage when checking in and out.

Identification and Valuable Items

  • Keep your wallet inside the front pocket of your pants or inside your jacket.
  • Carry only the necessary cash, credit cards, and belongings with you.

  • Leave copies of your travel documents — such as a passport and itinerary — with someone you trust and carry your passport or ID with you in a secure manner.

At the Event

  • Keep your personal belongings with you at all times.
  • Be vigilant in crowded areas, restaurants, and public transportation.
  • If you have to leave your seat, take your items with you and make sure your bag is closed.
  • Do not display large amounts of cash.

At Restaurants / Bars / Coffee-bars

  • Do not leave your handbag on the floor or on the chair.
  • Keep it in close contact or on your lap.

POLICE SERVICE SYSTEM AND EMERGENCIES

In Catalonia there are different police forces, each specialized in responding to a certain set of situations and public requirements. When there is a matter of public safety, you should contact the Police of the Catalan Government (Mossos d’Esquadra) or the Local Police (Guàrdia Urbana).

📞 112 emergency

  • If you need immediate police assistance, dial 112 (emergency telephone number, free of charge), 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This number is universal for all emergency services, and you can request police, ambulance, or fire services.
  • You can also download the free emergency app My112 for mobile phones which sends automatic location coordinates of the person who is calling 112 to alert an emergency, available for Android and for iOS.

REPORTING INCIDENTS TO THE POLICE

If you witness or are the victim of a crime being committed, please report it to the police.

Police stations are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Before going to a police station to file your complaint, please bear the following things in mind:

  •  It is advisable to make the police report as soon as possible, even if the incident happened hours or days ago.
  • You should have the details you have available (vehicle model, serial number, invoices, photos, etc.).
  • It is recommended that you provide the 112 number which can be found on the phone itself (by dialing *#06#) or on its original packaging.
